Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information crimsondesertinteractivemap.com collects, how it is used and what choices you have. The short version: the map needs no account, your progress stays in your own browser, and the only data processed elsewhere is what every website needs to deliver pages and show advertising.
Data stored in your browser
The map remembers your preferences so that it works the way you left it: which categories are switched on, which markers you have marked as found, the private pins you have dropped, your chosen map layer, language and colour theme. All of this is saved in your browser's local storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us, and we cannot see it.
You can delete it at any time with Reset progress in the map's Settings menu, or by clearing your browser's site data. The Export progress option writes the same information to a file that you control.
Server logs and hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request in order to deliver the pages, protect the site against abuse and keep aggregate statistics. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.
Advertising and cookies
To keep the map free, we show advertisements provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. Where the law requires it, you will be asked for consent before such cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at adssettings.google.com, and learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Other ad technology providers may also offer opt-outs through youronlinechoices.eu or aboutads.info.
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: which pages are visited, from which countries and on which kinds of devices, in aggregate. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address and browser details on Google's servers. You can prevent this with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by blocking cookies for this site.
If you write to contact@crimsondesertinteractivemap.com, we keep your message for as long as needed to answer it and to act on it, for example to correct a marker. We do not add your address to any list and do not pass it to third parties.
Children
The site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because we hold almost no personal data, most of these requests concern email correspondence; write to contact@crimsondesertinteractivemap.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site changes, for example when a new feature or partner is added. The date below shows the latest revision. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
